Natural surroundings, sensory memories, and music inspire a fluid drawing process guided by pen, pencil, and color. Recurring themes involve fantastical figures and nature interacting across varied landscapes, reflecting a search for personal connection and freedom.
Formative influences include childhood media, fantasy comics, and a pivotal relocation that introduced supportive creative relationships. These early experiences continue to shape the artistic vision, alongside editorial feedback aiming to improve narrative structure, imagery clarity, and grammatical consistency.
What makes me draw
Sometimes my work grows from an initial calm when faced with a blank page. Sometimes I come to this point as one does when entering a park or an unexplored place.
Memories of suggestive trees, alluring music, enthralling words move my hand. The sound of a pine cone popping open to drop its seeds, birds answering each other across long distances, a perfume that wafts around in my head, a blustery night with snow careening carelessly through all spaces, a tree holding it’s protective arms out, a rain quenching a thirsty ground, a song guiding lost spirits through the darkest of times, rocks and trees sitting huddled together surrounded by a drained land, a vision of light guiding an aging spirit.
I long for connections to link together across time and space. The journey is surely as important as the goal, is in fact part of the goal.
The experience
I allow the pen and pencil to guide my work, using up space in an energetic and sometimes thoughtful way.
My trees and aliens help each other along, moving through all manner of elements, from waters to afternoons to dark nights. Highly spirited and wise in the ways of the path that they are on, every opportunity for the experience of freedom, in whatever shape it takes, are explored to the end of time.
There is so much to see and experience that it must be taken in time with a stride that is sometimes fast and sometimes slow.
Influences and Growth
Growing up came slowly some days and a little too quickly other days. As I got older certain themes seemed to come together in me. Certain currents begun with exposure to shows like “Battle of the Planets,”,”Dungeons and Dragons”, and “Mighty Orbots”. “Elfquest” became one of the lights that encouraged a fearless spirit to go where I never had before.
My familty moved from conservative and clickish Stratford, CT to a foreign place called Florida, where the imagination seemed to go wild. Iwas befriended by a poet and a musician and lived through a time of great adventure and peril.
I am happy that those spirits still reside in me and inform my artistic and mundane life. It is the best of times. Through the lines of my pen and pencil, and now showing in colors, I am living life with wind beneath my wings.
