Seeker

seeker_250x406

I got this idea while waiting for my husband to finish at his job.  This bird is looking for his lunch.  This fish are aware of their dilemma and conspire to hide by pretending to be the rocks under water holding up the branch that the bird is perched on.  So far, they have been successful.

This drawing was done using lead hardnesses 6h,4h,2h,2b,4b,and 6b on a 20×14 cold press board.

Corwin Portrait

corwinportrait_250x330

This portrait of my son holds my love for him.  His smiles are so inviting it is impossible not to share the moment with him.  He is one of the great wonders of my life.

This portrait was done using lead hardness’s 6h,4h,2h,hb,2b,4b,and 6b and completed on Bristol board.  The entire first layer was done with the 6h and 4h pencils, with the subsequent layers starting to build up the shadow areas.  He has a very fair complexion, like me, and his hair colors range from blond to dark blond.

Two friends

This drawing was created January-June 2008.

two-friends_250x304

Deep in the heart of a forest two friends that have been together for a very long time and through many things share a drink of life, while the elders and many friends scattered throughout the forest look on.

Walking through woods is one of my favorite things to do.  When I am quiet and peaceful I feel I am a witness to many events that do occur while we run around with our busy lives, unaware of other lives and worlds.  Groups of stones or trees that seem to share a space give a view of something more that  would be otherwise overlooked if one were in a hurry.

In this picture I spent a lot of time visiting this place and feeling many wonderful things as I move forward with it.  The pencils sort of walk with me and let me know when something is happening.  Time passes and a new place is born.  Ann whenever I return it feels like I am home again.

I used pencils for this picture. 6h,4h,2h,hb,2b,4b,6b.  I first learned this technique in a commercial arts course in Florida as an approach to making portraits.  Applying it to my drawings brought a reality to my drawings coming from my consciousness.  It is such a thrill to see something come alive.

Sister’s Portrait

This portrait was created November-December 2008

Maria and Brad

This is a portrait of my sister and her husband.  I used 6h,4h,2h,hb,2b,4b,6b leads.  I really enjoyed working with the texture of Brads sweater and Maria’s hair.  It was challenging making a portrait of someone I know because you think you know what a person looks like until you really look.

This portrait was taken from a 8×10 phototgraph and manually enlarged using a grid technique.  Using lead harnesses 6h,4h,2h,hb,2b,4b,and 6b, it was done on  11×14 bristol board.  I did the entire first layer with the 6h and 4h leads and moved to the shadows with the subsequent leads.    This was a second drawing done for myself, the first one commisioned by my sister and done on coldpress board with a 2″ border on the sides and top and a 3″  border on the bottom.
